Total Hours for Week 25:  2

This week was a short week since Thanksgiving was on Thursday.  I was completing my last two hours of my mentorship this week.  On Monday, I made the changes to the drills/workout for the team camp that Coach Ison and I discussed last week.  Some of the athletes came in to the weight room on Tuesday and I helped them with spots.  I also did a quick cleaning on the weight room since there were some equipment and weight that was not put up properly.  I was able to go home to Virginia for Thanksgiving and see my family so I did not work from Wednesday through the rest of the week.

I finished the 200 hours for my metorship this week.  I learned a lot from Coach Ison and really feel that all that I learned will help me be more prepared to start applying for full-time college football jobs.  Keeping this blog will allow me to look back on my experience and the things that I learned during my mentorship.

Total Hours for Week 24:  9

Since the football season ended last week, we did not have any practices this week.  I met with Coach Ison early in the week to talk about what the athletes needed to do in their eight week training program which started next week.  I helped Coach Ison put together the workout packets that he had created for this eight week training program.  Coach Ison got me to work on putting together a list of the drills that we would be doing during the upcoming teach camp.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, Coach Ison and I gave out the eight week training packets to the athletes.  We would go through the packets with each group of athletes in order to help them understand what they needed to do and answer any questions that they had.  The majority of the athletes came in on Tuesday but some came in on Wednesday.  On Thursday, Coach Ison and I reviewed the drills that I collected information on last week for the team camp and got his comments on what changes should be made to the drills/workout for the team camp.  On Sunday I cleaned the weight room and made sure the equipment and weights were put up properly.

Total Hours for Week 23:  7

This was the last week of the football season.  Coach Ison and I had already done the conditioning workout that we typically did on Mondays on Sunday.  I worked with the athletes in the weight room during the week and helped spot them if they needed assistance with the exercises.  Coach Ison wanted the athletes to make sure they were doing their workouts so they could be ready for the last game of the season on Saturday.  He emphasized the band workouts during this week to make sure the athletes were stretching enough.  He didn’t want them to overexert themselves in the weight room because if they did that, they may not be recovered enough for the Saturday game.

I cleaned the weight room on Friday and made sure the bands were put up so there wouldn’t be any lost.  I helped Coach Ison with the warm-ups and stretches before and after the game on Saturday.  I collected information for the team camp and worked on a flyer for the camp for Coach Ison on Sunday.

Total Hours for Week 22:  9

During this week I worked on the three discussions for the Sports Mentorship course that had to be submitted by November 1.  This week was typical of most weeks during the season where I would help the head strength and conditioning coach with a conditioning workout on Monday.  Before and after the workout, I would assist Coach Ison with the warm-ups and stretches.  I typed and printed the workout for the week.  Throughout the week I would assist the athletes in the weight room.  Every evening I would make sure the weight room was straightened up since there are other athletes and students who use the weight room.  Coach Ison did not want someone to trip over anything or get hurt on something that was left out by someone else.  I cleaned the weight room on Friday and helped Coach Ison with the warm-ups and stretches before and after the game on Saturday.

This week was different than the rest of the weeks during the season because Coach Goff wanted to move the conditioning workout that was typically done on Monday to Sunday in order to be more prepared to play Lake Erie College.  The athletes would normally not practice on Sunday and could use that day for rest or rehab.  So, Coach Ison and I did the conditioning workout on Sunday.  I also typed and printed the workout for the upcoming week on Sunday since we were already in the office and Coach Ison wanted the athletes to have the workout in case they wanted to do one of their workouts on Sunday.
